The difference between primitive and primitvism is that primitive is the humans living basic, natural and simple lives, in the earliest evolutionary period of mankind without technology. Primitvism refers to the idea in art where the early primitive lifestyle cultures are more accomplished than contemporary society and its beliefs and ideas regarding civilisation.
Contemporary Primitivism might manifest itself in the sense that a number of people in today's society may want to go back to living the simple life, without technology and hassle in our busy lives.
In the National Gallery I found a photograph that represents a primitvist idea of art. The photograph was taken by Eduardo Masserre and was entitled 'Woman Planting Rice 1934'. I could view this photo as a primitivist piece as it depicts a woman in the Philippines enduring the hard labour of planting rice in a field of water. The woman appears to be working hard, but through her surrounding of a basic farm and her basic cloth clothes we are able to tell she lives a simple primitive life. The photograph is taken to depict the primitive world in which this woman lives.
